Exploring Human Speech

In this activity, students explore the human speech to find measurable characteristics that make words and people sound different. Students collect and graph data, summarize their results, and make conclusions linking their data to biology. This activity contains an in-class portion as well as a homework portion. 

Grade Level: Middle and High School

Approximate Time: 45-60 minutes, plus homework. 


Materials Needed: 
  • Computer with active microphone and Audacity software installed
